I have been a regular visitor to Dawlish since 1965 when I visited for the very first time. I fell in love with this beautiful little town and its breathtaking coastline. However, recently I have been rather disturbed by the amount of litter and dog mess that is found around the town and on the beach! I do hope something can be done to improve this situation, especially as Dawlish does rely on its visitors for survival.

Have just returned from Dawlish after spending our 4th Holiday there. Wonderful time, Coryton Cove is an ideal place for families. Children enjoyed themselves at the arcades and on the beach. You should ask the shop owners of the major stores to advertise on your site. Gays serve the best ice-cream in the world. Roll On 2003 for the next trip

Can anyone tell me if Sue is still at The Teignmouth Inn? I used to go down there & stay for a week in the summer a couple of years ago - I keep meaning to come back down, but never seem to find the time. The B&B at the pub was superb. Hi to anyone in Dawlish who remembers 'Bognor Jim'

Yes, Sue is still at The TI and is as welcoming as ever. I was in Dawlish in July and as ever not much has changed (except Ladbrokes moving to the Strand) Dawlish is still my favourite place to visit. Nick

I WAS BORN IN DAWLISH BACK IN 1962. My family and I moved to Australia in 1973. I visited Dawlish in 1982 to visit my roots. I still have fond memories growing up there. For a child it's the best place to be in the world when you're growing up. I loved walking up to Severn Sisters, the Beaches in the summer, and climbing the Monkey Tree in the Manor Grounds and seeing all my relatives and old school friends. Hope I can see the place again one day. Nick Leaman

Came to Dawlish in 1989 for the first time. Came home, sold my residential seaside caravan and bought a tourer. Been back every year since. Can't wait for July 2003. Great place, great people, great weather. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I live in Starcross but work in Dawlish. I think the local people there are pretty friendly, although you will always meet the odd one who has had a bad day, usually in traffic wardens uniform! The shops in Dawlish are adequate for everyday living but we could do with more variety. Spend some of my time in the summer sitting by Dawlish Water watching the ducks, swans and other wild life, (some of them two legged!). Enjoy Baileys Fish and Chips or Model's on Queen Street. Walking along the sea wall to Dawlish Warren is always refreshing and a visit to the Red Rock Cafe for some of Brenda's Bread Pudding is well worth it. So glad I live here and not London.

Dawlish is the best place in the world! Nearly all my family live there and my mum and my Nan were born there! I live in Bristol now and miss it loads - you just can't beat the place. Definitely coming back to settle down! If you are planning to go on hols I recommend Lady's Mile for touring & camping. I know there's not much to do but walk, swim and drink but that can be a good thing sometimes! And the Swan is cool.

Hello! Thanks to all the work on the 1891 Devon census I have traced my grandfather Henry Pratt then aged 6 years to Henry Gate Cottages, Dawlish, I am now wondering if these cottages still exist and if so their whereabouts as I intend visiting later in the year. Also thanks to the census project I discovered that he had a twin brother of whom I was previously unaware. It would be wonderful is someone could help. FRANCIS C BERNHARDI

Been coming to Dawlish for hols since 1950. Seen the place change over the years but enjoy our visits as much as ever. Miss the beach huts at Cliff Walk but never mind, Bob's still there. The place has an atmosphere of relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Can't beat Gays Creamery or a pint in the Exeter Inn. See you again in June. The Browns

I started visiting Dawlish as a child with my parents and grandparents. Usually twice a year, now I take my own children every year. My son took his first steps in Dawlish, I was there on September 11th and the day the queen mother died. I think I have stayed in all the guest houses in Dawlish, the warren and Teignmouth even though many are gone now. The saddest thing was losing Radfords every parents dream.

Last posted a message in the guestbook in August last year. Three weeks away from our next holiday - can't wait. Looking forward to the Carnival and all that goes with it. Nice to see that the guest book has been moderated with some of the less friendly messages finding a home in the deleted files. I for one have always found the people to be friendly, polite and helpful. My mother who will once again be travelling with us enjoys the scenery and the local history.

Having just come back from West Bay (Dorset) to try another place for a holiday (see the world a bit more) we took a day out to visit delightful Dawlish and the Warren - it's intoxicating (if only I could retire there!)

We were surprised and saddend to find the shops on the Warren have gone. They were part of the charm of the place. Can anyone advise why?
