The 2009
procession will take place on Friday 21st August. The
route runs for about 2½ miles through the town centre and
the procession itself can reach up to over a mile in length!
Whether you take part or sit back and watch it's a great
start to the evening.

Entering
the Procession
We are now taking entries for this year's procession.
All details and rules for entering are on the entry form that you can
download
here.
The procession is free to enter. Any entrants that wish
to be judged must have an adult in the entry. Children only entries can
still join the procession but their time to be judged is in the Children's
Fancy Dress on Wednesday 19th.
Our theme this year is
still to be decided. The theme can be interpreted any way and doesn't just have to
be limited. Use your imagination - it will be rewarded in
the judging of entrants. You are judged on Costume, Choice and Presentation,
Attention to Detail and Overall Effect.

Volunteer Marshall's
We are currently seeking volunteers
to help marshal the procession. If you volunteer early you may qualify to
be trained for free to a nationally recognised standard or gain a first
aid certificate. Marshals are needed to monitor the crowd and ensure the
safe passage of the procession. We are also keen to hear from "Chapter 8"
qualified people to help us set out our road closed signs. If interested
in marshalling e-mail
safety@

Road Closures
Our road closures
for the route run the length of the procession from 6.30pm up to 10.30pm
depending on how long the procession takes to finish. We also close John
Nash Drive for the Line up from 5pm until 7.30pm.

Collections
Money can only be
collected using official collection containers labelled and available from
the Committee Table on the line up. All money collected then belongs to
Dawlish Carnival Committee and is used to fund the Carnival Week event. If
we have a surplus at the end of the financial year we may then donate to
local organisations that benefit the community of Dawlish. Such
organisations should approach the committee no later than 30th September
each year. Donations are given at the AGM in November.

Watch The Procession
We have around 25,000 people that watch the procession so finding a
viewing point early is advised. We will publish soon a map detailing the
best viewing points along with places you cannot view it due to safety
issues.
Friday's park and ride for the
Carnival day will run from 2.00pm until 10.30pm and will cost a mere £5.
If your visiting for both the Thursday and Friday you can buy a concession
ticket for only £10!
