The Royal Jordanian Falcons confirm their attendance at
Dawlish!
For years our airshow co-ordinator,
Kevin Wills have been trying his best to get an international
display act at Dawlish. Unlike Clacton, Bournemouth and Eastbourne
we recieve no funding from our District or County council and
so our modest budget hasn't been able to stretch to accommodate all
that want to come - until now!
The
Royal Jordanian Air Force approached that they were planning to
visit the UK in August as part of their world tour and wanted to
display at Dawlish after hearing about us at the European Airshow
Convention. We can now confirm that their 4 ship full display will
take pride of place at Dawlish this year. We thank His Majesty King
Abdullah II, the team's sponsor's ADC, the Jordanian Airforce and of
course the team themselves for choosing Dawlish to be the 1st UK
venue at which you can see them for free!

The RNAS come to join the fun
Following the superb coverage of the
2007 airshow by the BBC, we got a phone call from RNAS Cauldrose
asking us why they weren't displaying and so we asked the same
question back. A few months later and they have confirmed that they
will be sending one of their Sea Kings to display this year
alongside the RNLI. The Royal Navy Helicopter will also be landing
in out "Smuggler's Inn" Static aircraft park for the
public to visit up-close. We welcome the RNAS to Dawlish and look
forward to seeing them and their display in August

The RAF again come up trumps
The committee can now make
the first of announcements concerning it's line up. The RAF are
sending the Red Arrows, the Typhoon, the Battle of Britain
Memorial Flight, the RAF Tucano and the Merlin
helicopter to fly at Dawlish in August. After attendance at the
European Airshow convention recently display coordinator Kevin Wills
spoke also about the large amount of interest in Dawlish from
International teams and other UK aircraft, "More and more
display teams are now seeing Dawlish as a prime location at which to
mix with airshow regular as well as those who wouldn't traditionally
visit an airshow". More announcements will be made shortly
regarding the line up.

Promising start to 2008 event
Despite poor financial
results with the 2007 airshow Dawlish Carnival Committee announced
that work is already well under way with the 2008 airshow. The event
relies purely on spectator donations and sponsorship to cover it's
costs and despite a tighter budget the
line up is looking promising with many teams trying their best to
secure a place at Dawlish. The committee also have put out a plea to
businesses and individuals for sponsors and advertisers in order to
allow more display acts to appear. Every penny of money raised gets ploughed
back into the Airshow and Carnival Week event.

Dawlish says goodbye to the AAC Blue Eagles and hello to the Typhoon
Once again tens of
thousands of people flocked to Dawlish to witness one of the largest
seafront airshows in Europe. It was the last year for the Blue
Eagles as an operational military display team and the crowds at
Dawlish thanked the team for the year's spent coming to their show
with a huge round of applause. The Typhoon of course made it's
entrance by drowning out every spectator with the roar of pure jet
power with it superb show of speed and maneuverability seemingly
floating through the air at points. A fantastic enjoyed by all,
especially those who stayed on for the town's carnival and live
music entertainment that evening and night.

Hospitality Area upgrades Airshow Facilities
For the first time a hospitality / VIP area is being operated as
part of the airshow. Dress being smart or uniform the area is by
invitation only. Expected to attend are various local government
leaders, business chiefs, key event sponsors and the crews of many
of the display teams flying that evening. It is hoped next year to
expand the facility to paying guests. This marks a step up for
Dawlish as they now begin to take on the more established of
airshows.

Merlin still to appear
Airshow regulars will be
glad to hear that despite the Merlin helicopter display team being
pulled across the UK from flying displays the newest of the RAF's
helicopters will be landing for public viewing throughout the day at
the Smugglers Inn static site.

Memorial Flight to fly again
Unfortunately due to bad weather at RAF Coningsby the Battle of
Britain Memorial Flight were unable to fly in the 2006 Airshow
despite the clear the blue skies we had that day in Dawlish. However
we are please to announce that they are to again appear at Dawlish.
Their second appearance will see a Spitfire, Hurricane and Dakote
display for the crowds.

Fast Jet
Debut at Dawlish
We are
please to confirm the attendance at Dawlish this year of the RAF’s
brand new state-of-the-art jet fighter, the Typhoon. It is the only
RAF fast jet solo display this year and so we are very fortunate to
see it’s dynamic and exhilarating display in the skies above Dawlish in August.
Also
making its debut at the 2007 Dawlish Carnival Airshow will be the
RAF’s newest support helicopter, the Merlin. The helicopter will
be available to us for both the flying & static displays.

Dawlish
Voted 6th Best Venue In The UK - A poll on the "Airshow
Review" website www.airshows.co.uk
has placed Dawlish Carnival Airshow as the joint 6th best airshow venue (along
with Biggin Hill) in the UK. We are pleased that people have enjoyed the Dawlish so much,
however it's not that surprising considering we have a large open sea level display line, cliff top
viewing areas superb for photographers and have been blessed in the last couple
of years with fantastic weather.
We are forever working hard to
improve the venue and experience for everybody and 2007 will be no exception. If you thought 2006 was something, you haven't seen
anything yet!!

2007 -
The Beginning
- Now more than two months into 2007 planning for
this year's event is well underway. After fantastic reviews of the 2006 both in
the aviation press and on the airshow circuit itself, 2007 is looking to be a
good year. Timetables for the main UK military display teams will be announced
with the next 6 weeks, after which we keep you all updated on what is happening. As
always we continue working up to the day before the show to bring in new acts.
This last year resulted in an appearance by a USAF KC 135, an RAF Grob
Tutor and a Hawker Sea Fury being added to the line up days before the show was
to take place. We also
now that many of you have purchased the Planes TV DVD which features Dawlish.
The DVD was still in production in January due to an unexpected interest in the
product. They have moved to larger premises and promise to deliver soon. Their
website is www.planestv.com.

07/09/06 - Carnival 2006 - Well that's it folks
for yet another very successful, very enjoyed and greatly celebrated Carnival
Week. We would like to thank all those who have helped in the many ways, whether you ran a
stall, collected money, helped out in the week we would like to thank you all,
and of course a big thank you to all those who came and visited Dawlish at this
truly remarkable week, we hope you all thoroughly enjoyed it and had a safe
journey home.
And as we look back on the week, well what a week it was, great weather all
week, which made the crowds flock to the lawn each day in their thousands, and
the air show crowd making a number of over 60,000 spectators. Committee members
said it was one of the best weeks to date.
But that's not it ladies and gentlemen, the committee still have a lot of
carnivals to attend, a Christmas grotto to organise, which a special guest will
be in Dawlish to visit the youngsters, and our AGM will be held in November of
this year.
So stay tuned, we look forward to seeing you all again next year. Book the
time off now (11th - 18th August 2007) |
